Ochil Astronautics Chosen For STAC Scale Programme

The Scottish space AgTech company will join 19 other businesses for the programme’s latest cohort.

31st August 2025 – Ochil Astronautics has been selected as a participant in STAC’s 6th Scale cohort.

The space AgTech business is one of just 20 Scottish startups chosen to take part in the 18-month long programme – and, notably, the only space sector business to be included.

The programme will give Ochil Astronautics access to founder‑focused support, including mentorship, prototyping labs as well as STAC’s state‑of‑the‑art workspace.

It will also give the business a chance to tap into STAC’s network and emerging investment arm, which has already injected over £1 million into early-stage startups.

Created and fronted by RAF Veteran and engineer, Stuart Preston, Ochil Astronautics is on a mission to bring fresh food to space, creating an innovative solution that will help astronauts extend their time in orbit.

This latest opportunity continues the increasing interest surrounding the business, following its inclusion in the UK Space Agency’s Explore Accelerator programme and the chance to showcase its technology at London Tech Week.

Speaking about the opportunity, Preston said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Ochil Astronautics to take the development of our Rugged Garden and Botanic Sky programmes to the next level. Being in a workspace filled with similar companies with a love of hardware will be a great environment for us to grow. Being selected as one of just 20 businesses is incredible, especially as the only space-focused business. Scotland, and especially Glasgow, is becoming a real hub for the space sector and the interest we’ve garnered for Ochil Astronautics highlights the exciting future for space startups in Scotland.”

The programme kicks off at their hub in Glasgow’s Skypark on 8th September, and aims to help the selected businesses take their ideas from concept to global operations.
